Bandilyo: World News

“Bandilyo” is a Cebuano term which, if translated to English, means to blare out or announce loudly. It is a method of announcing in Philippine barangays and sitios (local communities).

The work, Bandilyo, comprises a set of actions:

  1. Go up on a covered hallway in Kontula.
  2. Hang wind chimes on the vertical pillars.
  3. Using the megaphone, read aloud the day’s BBC New’s World News section through a mobile phone.
  4. Move to the next pillar, do the previous score. Repeat until all the ten pillars have key chains on them.

The piece was part of the Analco Project, 4 Performances: Exquisite Corpse. Performed during Kontula Electronic 2017.
