Publication of Journal Article: The Other is (Always) Angry

Sunday, November 9, 2025

Thrilled to announce that my latest article - A Personal Attempt to Note Down Migrant Precarity in Flemish Belgium: The Other is (Always) Angry - has just been published in the International Journal of Qualitative Methods!

This publication represents an important milestone in my ongoing Doctoral Artistic Research at LUCA School of Arts/KU Leuven. The article explores how qualitative inquiry and artistic practice can intersect to generate new forms of knowledge, particularly in contexts where lived experience, emotion, and cultural nuance are central.

For me, this work is not only academic—it is deeply personal. It reflects my commitment to amplifying the voices of migrant scholars (and migrant communities in general), to challenging exclusionary structures in academia, and to reclaiming emotion as a generative resource for scholarship. By weaving together reflexive ethnography and artistic immersion, I aim to show how research can be both rigorous and profoundly human.

Publishing in IJQM is especially meaningful because the journal has long been a space for methodological innovation and critical reflection. I’m grateful to the editors and reviewers who engaged with my work, and to the communities—academic and migrant alike—who continue to inspire and sustain this journey.

Heartfelt thanks to my promoters Dr. Esther Venrooij and Dr. Patrick Devlieger, to Dr. Jeroen Laureyns, Laura Puska, and Jolijn De Wolf for reading my drafts, and to my family and friends who stood behind this endeavour all throughout.

Sincere gratitude to the Roger Dillemans Fund for making this publication possible.

I hope this article sparks conversations about how we can reimagine qualitative methods to be more inclusive, accountable, and resonant with the realities of diverse researchers and participants. If you’re curious, I’d love for you to read it and share your thoughts.
